Failed sitcom dude Mike O'Malley is a secret agent on new NBC show
It's something TV nerds like me get paid to know.
But if you look at the guy playing Christian Slater's best friend on NBC's Bourne Identity-style adventure, My Own Worst Enemy tonight, you will see Mike O'Malley -- a beefy, everyguy standup comic who flamed out spectacularly in a self-titled sitcom for NBC in 1999.
Less geeky viewers may recognize him from CBS's mediocre comedy Yes, Dear. But who knew that a guy who once made his living playing real-life versions of Homer Simpson, would be so effective (and, dare this geek say, cool) as another secret spy-turned-office drone in his off hours by a chip implanted in his head.
As I noted Sunday, this is one of five great new shows debuting this week for our TiVo-ing pleasure. Check the early part of this clip to get a look at O'Malley's shedding his schlubby image:
