Today has been a rather interesting birthday.

It started with a pressing Floridian section deadline for a column I've been obsessing on, my feelings over Obama's victory Tuesday.

Of course, I had to keep breaking away from trying to get that done, because I kept getting calls from folks over my story about Mark Larsen in blackface, which ran in the newspaper this morning (why do some people ask a complex question, then never stop talking long enough for you to actually answer it?).

At any rate, I've let this nonsense keep me from my family on this special day for far too long. So I'm outta here now, leaving behind a promise to post something interesting tomorrow morning. (A Chuck Woolerly bobblehead goes to anyone who can actually guess my age today.)

I'll try not to drink too much birthday wine tonight.

But after a day like today, that's a promise that will be hard to keep.
