WTSP-Ch. 10's Preston Rudie owns up to his own mistake
Thanks to YouTube, broadcasters know any mistake they make can live forever in blooper clips.
So my admiration goes out to WTSP-Ch. 10 reporter Preston Rudie. He not only owned up to mistaking former Dallas Cowboys star Tony Dorsett for ex-Pittsburgh Steeler Lynn Swann, he wrote about it on his blog and let the station post the clip for all to see -- and embed.
There has been more than enough such moments on local TV this week, as every bay area TV station stakes out live shots in different areas to snag a piece of reflected Super Bowl excitement. WFTS-Ch. 28 offered early evening newscasts from a spot outside their studio across the street from Raymond James Stadium. Unfortunately, there wasn't a lot of light, making the anchors look a little murky, and high winds buffeted the anchor desk, even at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
WTSP's anchors have been broadcasting from the Channelside entertainment complex, where noise from nearby performers can be a serious distraction. Audio problems are to be expected, as stations scramble to cover a daunting live array of parties and events.
Of course, my admiration for Rudie won't stop me from putting the clip up on this blog. At least Dorsett was nice enough to continue the interview, even though it started on an awkward note.
