Marvelous Marvin Boone, longtime area radio voice, finds new, temporary job on WWBA
Fans upset when longtime local radio voice "Marvelous Marvin" Boone was let go by CBS Radio last year, can hear his familiar tones on WWBA-AM (820) for five days next week, when he fills in for morning guy Mark Larsen on Genesis Communications' growing talk radio outlet.
Boone is also expected to bring his DJ skills to a Feb. 21 rally fans have planned to protest his firing, along with the dismissal of four other personalities at WRBQ-FM (Q105), which came last year as executives refocused the oldies stations format to seek better ratings.
Cutbacks have found a number of Tampa Bay area media personalities and journalists surfacing in new arenas, from ex-WFLA health reporter Irene Maher hosting a show at public TV outlet WUSF-Ch.16, to former Tampa Tribune columnist Dan Ruth and ex-Creative Loafing writer Wade Tatangelo working for the St. Petersburg Times.
Here's WWBA's press release on Boone.
