Twenty-year veteran Frank Robertson to retire from WTVT-Ch. 13
Frank Robertson, who came to Tampa Fox station WTVT-Ch. 13 as a weekend anchor in 1988, eventually replacing local news legend Hugh Smith, will retire from the 5:30 p.m. broadcast on June 30, just shy of a 21-year tenure.
Robertson, who is married to 5 p.m. anchor and midday talk show host Kathy Fountain, will set off a minor shuffling of anchors with his departure, as Fountain and her 5 p.m. co-anchor Denise White take over the 5:30 p.m. broadcast.
Robertson's co-anchor at 5:30 p.m., Cynthia Smoot, will join Mark Wilson on WTVT's 11 p.m. NewsEdge broadcast, previously a single-anchor show.
When Robertson joined WTVT, the station was a CBS affiliate. He came to Tampa in August 1988 from WSVN in Miami, replacing Smith on the 6 p.m. weekday newscast months later to become the station's top male anchor.
Eventually, John Wilson would jump ship from rival WTSP-Ch. 10 to anchor the 6 p.m. and later the 10 p.m. newscasts.
During his time at WTVT, Robertson has worked as weekend anchor, sports and news anchor, marrying Fountain in 1995. "Fox 13 appreciates all of Frank's hard work and dedication during his time with the station," said a spokesperson for WTVT.
