Press interest over ESPN sideline reporter Erin Andrews -- featured in a peephole camera video released to the Internet showing her walking around nude in her hotel room -- has grown to the point that she called police after suspecting photographers had staked out her home in Georgia.

According to the Big Lead blog, Andrews lives in a gated community and was afraid a car parked in front of her home had a couple of paparazzi in it. They also scooped up the money quote: "I did nothing wrong and I'm being treated like f------ Britney Spears and it sucks."

The Chicago Sun Times has audio of the call. The Big Lead provides a transcript in which she explains who she is to the dispatcher, noting "I have been in the news recently about being in the hotel naked and I have paparazzi outside and I was told by law enforcement that if I did, to call 911."

I wrote last week about the way Andrews' victimization has forced sports media to face how it objectifies some female reporters.

There's also local interest because Andrews' dad, Steve Andrews, is an investigative reporter at WFLA-Ch. 8 and she lived her for a time. (Steve Andrews told me, when his daughter's lawyer gives an OK, he'll talk to me about all the craziness)

The ironies about all this abound: A reporter calling police to keep other journalists away; the feeding frenzy touched off by an illegally-taken video of a reporter known for her beauty and its effect on mostly male sports fans; the sad spectacle of seeing another public figure caught up in the mad chase for news tidbits which usually plague the likes of Lindsay Lohan and, yes, Britney spears.

And the media critic who deplores the use of sideline reports as eye candy on sports blogs and broadcasts, yet knows this item on Andrews will draw more than a few pageviews.
