Comic Joan Rivers' new-school version of Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous — a TV Land series dubbed How'd You Get so Rich? — focuses on St. Petersburg Wednesday with a profile of local infomercial king Kevin Harrington, the man who made a $100 million fortune selling Ginsu knives and fitness guru Tony Little on TV.

During the segment, Rivers comes to Harrington's sprawling, 11,000-square-foot mansion in St. Petersburg, an eight-bedroom, nine-bathroom estate he purchased from then Atlanta Braves outfielder Gary Sheffield in 2002 for $2.8 million.

As the pair walks the grounds, Harrington shows off his professional-level gym, a roomful of slot machines, a tanning bed, a $35,000 aquarium, $10,000 chandeliers and what he called the longest boat dock in the Tampa Bay area.

Harrington also talked about building a heating and air conditioning business into a million-dollar business by his sophomore year in college. Stumbling on a home show demonstration of a Ginsu knife, he wondered what might happen if he put the sales display on camera and had people order via toll-free numbers. Not bad for a guy who declared bankruptcy just 10 years ago.

TV seems to love Harrington these days: he's also appearing on ABC's Shark Tank, the unscripted series featuring a panel of business experts deciding whether to fund projects and ideas pitched by aspiring entrepreneurs.
