TLC cuts out ex-husband Jon Gosselin to create 'Kate Plus 8'
Looks like reality TV star-turned-tabloid punching bag Jon Gosselin got his wish.
For long months now, Jon Gosselin has been complaining about all the attention he's gotten from cheating on the wife and mother of his eight kids while their marriage disintegrated.
Today, TLC and his soon-to-be-ex-wife Kate Gosselin solved that problem for him, announcing plans to cut the Jon out of Jon & Kate Plus 8 and refocus the show on Kate Gosselin's attempts to build a new life as a single mom. The revamped show returns Nov. 2.
No doubt, TLC's actions were, um, encouraged by the death spiral in ratings for Jon & Kate Plus 8 after the couple's marital woes were confirmed on camera and the allegedly unscripted "reality" show became a clumsy, uncomfortable look at their pair's attempt to negotiate a painfully public breakup on camera.
According to my pal at the Baltimore Sun David Zurawick, the show lost 62-percent of it's viewers during the months of August and September -- from 4.2-million on Aug. 3 to 1.7-million Sept. 21. The June episode where the pair announced their breakup drew over 10-million viewers; recent numbers are a 84-percent plunge from that height.
Of course, Kate Gosselin is busy becoming a media star in her own right, co-hosting The View during for several days during Elisabeth Hasslebeck's maternity leave and taping a pilot for a View-style chat show of her own, with Food Network star Paula Deen, former Early Show co-host Rene Syler and Lee Woodruff, wife to ABC anchor Bob Woodruff.
Kinda makes you wonder what those eight kids will be doing, now that daddy's been cut out of the TV show and mommy's busy becoming the next Barbara Walters.

“JON & KATE PLUS EIGHT” SERIES TO EVOLVE WITH CHANGES IN THE GOSSELIN FAMLY
TLC has announced that JON & KATE PLUS EIGHT will adapt to the changing Gosselin family and relaunch in November under the new title KATE PLUS EIGHT.
The program will continue to capture the incredible lives of the eight Gosselin children and their family but will now include a deeper focus on Kate’s role in the family and her journey as a single mother building the next chapter in her life.
TLC will continue its exclusive relationship with Jon Gosselin and he will continue to appear on the show, but on a less regular basis.
"Given the recent changes in the family dynamics, it only makes sense for us to refresh and recalibrate the program to keep pace with the family. The family has evolved and we are attempting to evolve with it; we feel that Kate’s journey really resonates with our viewers. Additionally the network is in development on a Kate project for 2010” states Eileen O’Neill, President and GM, TLC.
The series will continue to chronicle the Gosselin family as they go on outings and tackle daily challenges and adventures. It will also document Kate’s journey as a newly single mother raising 5 year-old sextuplets and 8 year-old twins.
