What to watch this weekend: ‘Bright,’ ‘I Love Lucy’ and ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas specials

Fantastical cop drama: Bright

Will Smith is back on the small screen in a big way for Netflix's newest original film, Bright. The Suicide Squad and Men in Black star is put in an alternate present day, where race relations have more to do with relationships between humans, orcs, faeries and elves than skin color. Smith is police Officer Daryl Ward alongside partner Nick Jakoby (Joel Edgerton), an orc with a rough past. A routine patrol throws the two into a search for a magical item that everyone wants, including a powerful, ruthless elf played by Noomi Rapace. Ward and Jakoby must overcome their differences and an onslaught of enemies to protect a long-forgotten relic that could destroy everything if put in the wrong hands.  Now available on Netflix.

In full color: I Love Lucy Christmas Special

The new one-hour I Love Lucy special features two colorized episodes from the classic series, including "The Christmas Episode" and "The Fashion Show," on Friday night. "The Christmas Episode," first broadcast on CBS on Christmas Eve in 1956, sees the Ricardos and Mertzes decorating Lucy and Ricky's tree and talking about how their lives have changed since Little Ricky was born. In flashbacks, Lucy tells about the time she told Ricky she was pregnant and the time she unexpectedly shows up as part of a barbershop quartet. In "The Fashion Show," first broadcast in 1955, Lucy gets Ricky to let her spend up to $100 on a dress at the Don Loper Salon in Beverly Hills. But she ends up spending five times that when she's invited to participate in a Loper fashion show alongside glamorous movie star wives. Catch the episodes at 8 p.m. Friday on CBS.
