Someone will win $2,500 for eating a huge burrito in Tampa

Taco Bus is bringing back its El Jefe Burrito Eating Championship for a second year with more than five times the cash prize for the person who chows down a 2.5-pound burrito in the shortest time.

The competition takes place April 5, National Burrito Day, at Taco Bus Brandon at 301 S Falkenburg Road, Tampa, with the winner getting a $2,500 cash prize plus a WWE-style championship belt.

Second place gets $1,000, third gets $500. A spokesperson for Taco Bus says the event is even drawing some notable competitive eaters from outside the Tampa area, and that reigning champ Michael Jenkins, who won with a time of 2:22 last year, will be back to defend the title.

Until March 31, anyone can enter to qualify for the competition by visiting any Taco Bus location, purchasing an El Jefe burrito and eating it in less than 6 minutes to get a qualifier certificate from a Taco Bus employee. Using the code on the form, entrants can enter at taco-bus.com/el-jefe for a chance to be selected as a finalist.

The public is invited to witness the competition at Taco Bus Brandon, which will also be giving out some Taco Bus swag and offering a $5 burrito special that day.
