Science Friday with host Ira Flatow will be live and local this week from the University of South Florida in Tampa.

Science Friday is normally recorded in advance before airing on Fridays, but with the radio show and podcast’s production team in town for Saturday’s live show at Tampa Theatre, the broadcast decided to go live on the air from WUSF’s local studios Friday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Friday’s live broadcast will pre-empt some other shows that normally air on WUSF at that time, such as The Takeaway.

Saturday’s 90-minute live show at Tampa Theatre begins at 8 p.m. and will feature “live music, props, video screenings and science demonstrations," a WUSF news release said.

Flatow, who formerly hosted PBS series Newton’s Apple and Big Ideas has become a bit of a pop culture icon for those who follow science journalism. He’s played himself on two episodes of the Big Bang Theory.

Tickets, priced from $25 to $50, are on sale now at wusf.org/scifri.
