A Shonda Rhimes murder drama starring Viola Davis? Yes, please
It's that time in TV land again: Time to start speculating on which shows might make up the 2014-15 season. Nothing's been announced just yet, but we've been having a blast reading this list The Hollywood Reporter just released of the pilots most likely to land on the fall schedule.
On the top of our Must-See list? A new show from Scandal/Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes starring none other than Tony-winning, Oscar-nominated actor Viola Davis. Now, we'd watch just about anything involving those two women, but the show they're working on sounds right up our Scandal-loving alley. For one thing, it's called How to Get Away With Murder, and it'll center on a group of law students and their brilliant law professor Annalise DeWitt (Davis). THR describes it as a "a sexy and suspense-driven legal thriller" starring Davis as a professor who becomes involved in, well, a murder! Oh, and Davis' character is having an affair no one can know about, because of course she is. It's Shondaland!
If the show gets picked up, Rhimes would have three shows on ABC simultaneously (she managed the hat trick once before when Private Practice was still on). Considering her penchant for writing terrific, well-rounded female characters (not to mention female African-American characters, something the networks sorely lack), we say go ahead and give her as many shows as she wants.
