As CNN Latino expands to Tampa Bay area, it may not reach Bright House Networks
CNN Latino is poised to debut in the Tampa Bay area as part of an ambitious plan to bring the eight-hour-a-day block of syndicated, Spanish-language programs to TV stations in New York, Phoenix, Orlando and Tampa.
But there is some confusion over whether it will appear on Bright House Networks, the Tampa Bay area’s largest cable TV provider.
Bright House spokesman Joe Durkin said the cable company has no deal to carry WTAM-TV, the low-power television station in Tampa which will feature CNN Latino programs from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. daily. But a spokeswoman for CNN Latino said the channel will debut on Bright House in October; it debuts on Verison FIOS, which already carries WTAM, in early May.
In the other markets, CNN Latino will air on low power TV stations, some of which will be retransmitted on cable systems.
CNN Latino is a separate block of U.S.-focused programming from the cable channel’s Spanish-language news outlet, CNN en Espanol; the distribution on low power TV stations is first step toward establishing a national channel, according to the spokeswoman.
