Billy Squier and MTV's Very Merry Christmas 'I Love You'
On a recent bawdy boys trip to Miami, we were pleasantly, and constantly, visited by a certain ghost of MTV past: Billy Squier, whose The Stroke, Lonely Is the Night and Everybody Wants You found me via radio, TV, bars, stadiums, you name the glorious guitar-riff delivery system. It was the weirdest darn thing -- but kinda awesome, too. The one Squier classic I didn't hear, however, was the one I wanted to hear most of all: Christmas Is the Time to Say I Love You, which MTV helped make a hit when the hirsute underrated rock star famously visited the cable channel's set in 1981. This loose, awesomely amateurish office-party video features all manner of old-school veejays, including Martha Quinn and Nina Blackwood. God bless you, Billy Squier. And God bless us, everyone.
