American Idol result may prove voters are finally back on track
Could American Idol voters finally be back on track?
Eliminating scratchy-voiced Paul McDonald on Thursday, Idol viewers killed a lot of awful trends, kicking off the first guy finalist after five straight weeks of ejecting women and cutting loose the show's weakest voice one week after inexplicably ousting ace vocalist Pia Toscano.
That doesn't mean critics aren't right when they say the show could use a dose of former star Simon Cowell's acid-tongued attitude. There's a fine line between supportive and full of it; judges crossed that boundary way too often in Wednesday's show, which treated every performance like a second coming.
Judge Randy Jackson could be right; American Idol could be on track to crowning another cute boy winner. And he will probably struggle to sell records. Again.
But after Thursday's result, its obvious that won't happen without a little more fight.
