Bill McFarland, hired from ABC station in New York, named news director at WFTS-Ch. 28

abc-action-news-300x177.jpgThe changes among top staffers at Tampa ABC affiliate WFTS-Ch. 28 continues, as Bill McFarland is named the station's new news director. McFarland takes over as the current top news executive, assistant news director Susan D'Astoli, leaves to become news director at KJRH-TV in Tulsa, Okla.

WFTS' previous news director, Doug Culver, left in June to become news director at WJLA-TV in Washington D.C. And the station has also replaced morning weather forecaster Stephanie Roberts, let go top investigative reporter Alan Cohn, seen street reporter Don Germaise retire and watched weekend anchor Ellen McNamara leave for an anchor job in Minneapolis/St. Paul, all since the start of the year.

McFarland joins WFTS from WABC-TV in New York, where he served as assistant news director.

"Bill brings over 20-years of successful news management experience in large market television newsrooms,” said General Manager Rich Pegram in a press release.  “I am confident that his commitment to quality journalism and his leadership abilities will help ABC Action News continue our remarkable ratings momentum of the past year.”
