Bubba the Love sponge scores top ratings for morning radio for third consecutive period
Looks like a good old fashioned radio war can really pay off.
Bubba the Love Sponge Clem has notched top ratings for his morning show on WHPT-102.5 FM (The Bone), marking his third consecutive measurement period at the top, following the release of Arbitron's ratings survey for Summer 2008. According to the figures, Clem has emerged on top in ten different categories for adults and males, including men divided by a range of ages: 12 and above, 18 to 34 and 25 to 54.
Since returning to free "terrestrial" radio in the Tampa Bay area in January, Clem has cracked the mike hard on the competition, airing regular tirades about rival Todd "MJ" Schnitt at WFLZ-93.3 FM; criticizing Mark Lunsford, father of murdered 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford; allowing a former member of Schnitt's radio show to come on his air and complain about her former employer and bringing on Terry "Hulk Hogan" Bollea to talk about his life in the wake of a painfuly public divorce and the jailing of his son for months on a reckless driving charge.
Schnitt eventually filed a lawsuit against Clem for some of the on air insults, bringing more media coverage and talk on WHPT.
Here's a look at the press release Clem and Cox Radio have issued:

On behalf of Cox Tampa and the Cox Radio family, we want to congratulate Bubba, Brent, Spice, Manson, and, of course, Ned on a job well done!”
Bubba the Love Sponge® (his legal name) returned to local airwaves on January 8, 2008 after a four-year absence, prior to which he had been a dominating radio personality in Tampa for 12 years, with the area’s highest-rated show.
