Christine O'Donnell knows how to get attention: Walk out on CNN's Piers Morgan
So, let's say you're a failed conservative candidate for Congress, pushing a new book at a time when presidential candidates such as Rick Perry, Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin and Ron Paul are eating up the lion's share of attention.
How to grab the spotlight and move some product? Well, you walk out on CNN, of course.
Host Piers Morgan sputters like a character from a Monty Python skit, as O'Donnell reacts to a question about gay marriage by refusing to answer and then walking off the set. Nevermind that he's asking about a subject O'Donnell's discusses in the book she's pushing.
"Why are you being so weird about this?" Morgan eventually asks in a bemused tone. "I'm baffled as to why you...I'm asking you questions based on your own public statement and now what you've written in your own book."
So, because Morgan asked about subject in her book that she didn't want to talk about, she left. Certainly within her rights. But she won't lose that label of being erratic and inconsistent by refusing to talk about stuff in her new book that she finds uncomfortable or off message.
I'm thinking, frankly, that by walking off Morgan's show, she probably will get more publicity than she ever could just telling us how much she hates gay marriage -- which we already know. And Morgan even obliged her with a quizzical, if thorough, plug for the new book.
Ain't show business cool?
