Clear Channel Radio says Sharon Taylor layoff from WFLA-AM not a cost-cutting move
"Morning Co-Host, 970-WFLA
Newsradio 970-WFLA, Florida's #1 news-talk radio station, has a rare opening on its three-person AM Tampa Bay on-air team. This is a position of a lifetime for just the right person. The successful candidate will be passionate, humble, smart, humorous, well-informed and able to interact well with an ensemble cast. This person will also love to be involved in the community and count it a privilege to help others reach their goals.")
The departure last week of Sharon Taylor, longtime co-host of the AM Tampa Bay morning show on WFLA-AM (970) was not the result of cost-cutting moves, according to an executive at Clear Channel Radio.
Taylor, who had co-hosted the show for 10 years with personalities Tedd Webb and Jack Harris, said she did not know why her contract wasn't renewed; her last day on the show was Sept. 10. She also performs as a singer with a local band, Sharon and the Boys.
"It was not a cost-cutting issue," said Dan DiLoreto, Tampa market manager for Clear Channel Radio, declining to offer more details on the decision. "The format's doing quite well." DiLoreto said they have not decided if they will replace Taylor on the show.
Clear Channel Radio made big headlines earlier this year for waves of layoffs aimed at cutting costs, which included 1,850 positions in january and 590 positions in April.
