Comic Patrice O'Neal's death draws Twitter tributes from Ricky Gervais, Sarah Silverman, others
Comedy nerds knew that Patrice O'Neal was a comic's comic -- aggressively irreverent, bluntly profane onstage and always, always funny as hell.
So it was sad news indeed to hear that O'Neal, a diabetic who suffered a stroke in October, died this morning at the age of 41.
One of my fave lines from O'Neal didn't even come in a standup routine.
Asked by a journalist about meeting Charlie Sheen before roasting him on Comedy Central, O'Neal admitted he had never seen the famously self-destructive actor in person before.
"That's what these roasts are," he said, laughing. "(People) who don't know each other talking shit."
Comedy Central will air his standup special, Elephant in the Room, at 8 p.m. and midnight Wednesday.
And the tributes to O'Neal have been pouring in from all corners of cyberspace, from comics big as Sarah Silverman and Ricky Gervais.
