David Letterman's sex revelations just spark more questions
As some experts marvel at the way David Letterman expertly controlled disclosure of his sexual relationships with female staffers -- one blogger called it the best example of getting in front of a damaging story in recent history -- it's also obvious the comic on-air admission Thursday raised more questions than it answered.
Who are the women he slept with, and will they speak publicly? The Fox affiliate in New York has reported the extortionist is a producer for the CBS newsmagazine 48 Hours who dated Stephanie Birkitt, a former assistant to Letterman. The station says a copy of Birkitt's diary was included with the materials the extortionist gave to Letterman.
All this swing speculation to Birkitt, who once appeared on the show regularly during bits where Letterman might call her and request some outrageous task. The tabloids likely have their checkbooks open for anyone who can reveal details about these relationships, and any details which surface will go a long way toward determinig whether Letterman will pay a serious price for his mistakes.
