Daytime host Dr. Phil snags first interview with Casey Anthony's parents, George and Cindy Anthony

dr-_phil.2jpg.jpg(UPDATE: McGraw's spokeswoman declined to comment on all additional questions, including how much money the show may be paying to charity for the Anthonys' exclusive cooperation; I'm kinda wondering why any money needed to be paid at all, if all they want is to make their story public.)

Dr. Phil McGraw just announced a huge interview "get" for his first show in the fall season -- a crucial time when his program will be moving to take over timeslots once occupied by mentor Oprah Winfrey's blockbuster talk show.

Dr. Phil will take on what may be the most dysfunctional family in recent history, speaking with acquitted murder suspect Casey Anthony's parents George and Cindy Anthony in an exclusive interview. The talk will air Sept. 12, on the syndicated show's season debut, airing at 4 p.m. locally on WTSP-Ch. 10.

According to the show's press release, the Anthonys didn't receive any direct compensation for the interview, instead asking that a donation be made to their new charity, Caylee's Fund.

george-cindy-anthony-cnn.jpgThe family's internal issues became international news during the trial, as Casey Anthony's attorney accused her father and brother of molesting her, while her brother seemed left out of the family's celebration of Anthony's pregnancy and mother Cindy Anthony seemed to lie on the witness stand to protect her child.

Wonder how strongly McGraw will challenge her on the testimony which seemed untrue -- computer records indicated she was at work during times Cindy Anthony said she was using a home computer with questionable searches conducted -- and the allegations against George Anthony of infidelity and incest?

I've asked a representative of the show for information on how much Dr. Phil is donating to charity. Hopefully, more details will follow.

The official press release follows:

DR. PHIL has secured an all media exclusive interview with Cindy and George Anthony, the results of which will air as the 10th season george_cindy_anthony.jpgpremiere on Monday, September 12, 2011 (check local listings).

“Cindy and George have suffered a horrific loss with the untimely death of their granddaughter Caylee, and they have since endured an unprecedented public attack on their family,” says Dr. Phil. “Have these attacks been warranted, or not?  I looked them straight in the eye and asked some very tough questions.  Despite living under a ‘media microscope’ for years, THEIR story has never really been told and there’s so much more to it than we’ve heard in the media. Throughout this extensive interview, we explore every detail of their ordeal, and they answer every question I know will be on our viewers' minds.  Nothing is off limits during this interview."

Cindy Anthony said, “We knew that we’d want to speak at some point, and we figured there was no better place than with Dr. Phil.  We are hoping that by doing this interview, we will be able to help other people who may be experiencing struggles of their own.  We certainly don’t want anyone to experience what we have these last three years.” George Anthony continues, “We appreciate the way in which Dr. Phil has helped others, and we trust him enough to completely open our hearts in telling our story.  He is a professional that understands the uniqueness of our family situation. There’s no one better to do this interview than Dr. Phil.  We knew he would ask the difficult questions, and we were right.”

The Anthonys sought no compensation for their interview, asking only that a donation be made to a charitable organization currently being formed to honor their granddaughter.  The couple will derive no income from “Caylee’s Fund,” which will be a federally sanctioned 501 (c) (3) intending to focus on promoting processes to educate the public about - and advocate for - grandparents’ rights, as well as missing and abused children by maximizing the use of public interactivity to increase efficiency and knowledge.
