Defending the new CBS This Morning on CNN's Reliable Sources Sunday
Here's the video from my appearance Sunday on CNN's Reliable Sources media show with host Howie Kurtz, mostly defending the new format at CBS This Morning.
Not that I don't disagree with Newsday TV critic Verne Gay, who says CBS has an opportunity to experiment with what a morning show can offers viewers and they don't go far enough.
But I do think network TV programming is a marathon more than sprint, and the goal for CBS This Morning was to debut a format which could support their efforts to reinvent the show.
It's still got lots of challenges: the anchors aren't comfortable yet, especially Charlie Rose, who still comes across as someone plopped in an environment he's not quite sure how to navigate. And the set feels a little discombobulated, with anchors facing each other across a circular table in a way which doesn't feel particularly natural or TV-friendly.
Check out my appearance below and let me know what you think; and note the irony that I point out Rose's tired-looking eyes even as i seem to have trouble keeping my own lids open (it wasn't that way, just looked like it on TV, I swear.)
