Ernest Hooper to take over as interim Brandon bureau chief for St. Pete Times
I mention this only because I don't want people thinking I've stopped covering media to run the Brandon bureau for a few months.
But you may notice Tampa columnist Ernest Hooper's output diminish a bit over the next few months. That's because he'll be taking over running the Brandon bureau until February, as current bureau chief Sherri Day goes on maternity leave.
This means Hooper will be writing his Monday column and his column for the front of the Brandon section, spending more time helping guide the newspaper's coverage of his neighborhoods otherwise. Having seen him lead writing classes and talk to aspiring young journalists, I can't think of a better guy to help lead the St. Petersburg Times' work in a crucial area.
And after our Gov. Charlie Crist quoted Hooper's immortal column-closing line to me at a recent dinner -- I couldn't tell if he was confusing the two of us or just mistakenly assuming I used that line in my media columns -- perhaps the change will keep people from confusing us so much.
That's all I'm saying.
