Ex-Tampa resident and Daily Show correspondent Aasif Mandvi asks Gov. Rick Scott to pee in cup
Former Tampa resident, onetime University of South Florida student and Daily Show correspondent Aasif Mandvi made a little noise during Florida Gov. Rick Scott's announcement of the state's budget today, asking Scott to pee in a cup for a drug test.
You can see the video below, where Mandvi tries to get journalists and public officials massed at the press conference to pass a plastic cup to the governor so he could "prove to Florida tax payers that you're not on drugs."
"I've done it plenty of times," said Scott, looking perplexed and trying to move on.
A few minutes later, as Mandvi tried to ask another question, the governor turned to other questioners in the crowd, saying to the comic actor "you don't get to run this."
One can only imagine the Daily Show story Mandvi must be working on, to need a scene like this one to cap his piece.
A correspondent on the show since 2006, Mandvi actually grew up in Tampa; his family moved to the Northdale neighborhood from England when he was a teen. Back then, he was Aasif Mandviwala, graduating from Chamberlain High School in 1984 and studying theater at USF.
Now he's on the case in Tallahassee for the Daily Show. Can't wait to see where the pee cup request footage lands in his latest work.
