sheena-parveen3.jpgWhen St. Petersburg native Sheena Parveen confirmed she was leaving Tampa Fox affiliate WTVT-Ch. 13 for a job in Philadelphia, she declined to confirm the exact station or job.

But NBC affiliate WCAU-TV issued a statement today announcing that Parveen would provide weather reporting for the station's 11 a.m. newscast, along with contributing to the 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. broadcasts.

The move vaults the forecaster, at age 25, from a weekend job in the 14th-largest TV market to a weekday job in the fifth-largest market in the country. She starts at the end of the month.

Parveen, who has lived in Florida her entire life, came to WTVT in November 2009 after working as a forecaster at WCTV Tallahassee. Known as Sheena Parveen Samanipour while growing up locally, she earned a Bachelor's degree in meteorology from Florida State University.

The station's release is below:

PHILADELPHIA, PA – December 12, 2011 – NBC 10 Philadelphia today announced that Sheena Parveen will be joining the station as a Meteorologist starting at the end of the month. Parveen will provide weather reporting for NBC 10 Philadelphia’s 11 AM newscast in addition to contributing to NBC 10 News at 4, 5, and 6 PM.

sheena-parveen2.jpgParveen joins Philadelphia’s veteran meteorology team comprised of Chief Meteorologist Glenn “Hurricane” Schwartz and Meteorologists Bill Henley, Michelle Grossman and Dave Warren. Bringing a combined 50 years of experience, NBC 10’s five-person weather team is Philadelphia’s premier weather source for viewers in and around the Delaware Valley.

“We’re thrilled to have Sheena join the best weather team in Philadelphia,” said Chris Blackman, Vice President of News for NBC 10 Philadelphia. “Our viewers will quickly connect with the passion and energy she brings to weather reporting.”

Most recently, Parveen was the lead forecaster and on-air Meteorologist for the Good Day Tampa Bay weekend morning show on WTVT, the FOX affiliate in Tampa. In addition to meteorology, Parveen reported throughout the week on environmental topics and hosted a pet adoption segment each Sunday morning with the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. Parveen began her career at WCTV as a Reporter and Meteorologist in Tallahassee, Florida.

A native of St. Petersburg, Parveen graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology and a Minor in Mathematics.
