First look at Starz's Mad Men-style drama set in 1959-era Miami, Magic City
Mad Men finally comes to South Beach, courtesy of Starz' new series, Magic City.
Currently filming in South Florida, Magic City features former Grey's Anatomy and Watchmen star Jeffrey Dean Morgan as a hotel owner secretly in debt to the Mob, trying to keep up a facade of respectability and lawfulness.
It's an interesting way to get at the decline of Miami Beach's 50s-era glamour, back when stars such as Jackie Gleason broadcast TV shows from the city and turned it into Hollywood South.
Starz has assembled an intriguing cast, including James Bond girl Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace) as Morgan's ex-showgirl wife and Danny Huston (the villain in X-Men Origins: Wolverine) as the mobster. But the channel has a tough time connecting quality content to its good-looking productions (see: Camelot and tonight's debut of Kelsey Grammer's Boss) so I'm reserving judgment fully until I see a pilot episode).
Magic City is also the latest in a promising string of series to film in Miami, including A&E's The Glades, which was just renewed for a new season and ABC's Charlie's Angels, which wasn't.
Look below for a sample preview of the show, which won't debut until early 2012:
