Hulk Hogan calls press conference today announcing lawsuit against Bubba the Love Sponge Clem

hulk-hogan-cnn.jpgA publicity firm which says it represents wrestling star Terry "Hulk Hogan" Bollea has called a press conference later today in Tampa, saying the wrestler and two of his lawyers will speak on his decision to file lawsuits connected to the release of a video of him having sex with the onetime wife of his best friend, local radio star Bubba the Love Sponge Clem.

The release says Hogan will file a federal lawsuit against the parent company of the gossip website Gawker, which posted clips of the video. Clem and his former wife Heather Cole would be the subject of a state court action. A representative from the firm said both lawsuits will seek damages for the video, which Hogan says was made and released without his knowledge.

"I've not been served with anything...Bubba's the victim here," said Stephen Diaco, an attorney and longtime friend of Clem's who often acts as his counsel. Diaco, who noted Clem can't speak on the issue due to provisions in his divorce settlement, added, "I don't know how you sue a victim."

(UPDATE: According to live footage of the press conference aired at 5 p.m. on local CBS affiliate WTSP-Ch. 10, which mostly featured Hogan's attorneys talking, the wrestler is suing Gawker for $100 million. If the suit is aimed at finding out who leaked the tape, Clem might be his best option -- which might explain why most of the lawyers tough talk seemed to center on Gawker and whoever leaked the video. Some conspiracy theorists online remained convinced the controversy was a hoax by Hogan and Clem to finagle publicity and money out of the footage.)

The video has sparked more than a week's worth of media interviews and gossip website coverage, with Gawker posting clips from the video, TMZ.com reporting comments made by Clem at the video's end indicating he knew the video was recording and Radar Online quoting an unnamed source who said a disgruntled employee of Clem's leaked the video.

Hogan's appearance on several national media outlets to discuss the tape, including CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight and shock jock Howard Stern's show, has led some critics to wonder if this is a high-profile publicity stunt.

But Hogan has reportedly asked the FBI to look into who leaked the tape and has called a press conference for 5 p.m. today in Tampa to discuss the two lawsuits he hopes to file.

Below is a copy of the press release:
