Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin in HBO's Game Change: How will movie handle her?
As HBO releases pictures proving Julianne Moore has nailed Sarah Palin's look for its movie of the controversial campaign book Game Change, I wonder whether scriptwriter Danny Strong will treat her the way he handled Florida politico Katherine Harris in another political movie, HBO's Recount.
Back when HBO aired Recount, which Strong pulled together after interviewing more than 40 people connected to the fight over Florida's electoral votes in 2000, some people who knew Harris complained to me that Laura Dern's portrayal of her was an unfair caricature.
I was more interested in details that were undisputed, including scenes showing the advisors helping George W. Bush challenge Florida's election results worked out of Harris' office.
Still, it will be interesting to see how Strong handles portraying another eccentric, sorta sexy, nakedly ambitious conservative female politician.
In many ways, Harris was an early premonition of Palin, undone by a disastrous bid for U.S. Senate which made her look unstable and unready for the pressures of federal office.
In Game Change, Strong and HBO get a shot at Harris 2.0.
Can't wait to see what they come up with.
