Live with Regis and Kelly pushed back to10 a.m. as WTVT-Ch. 13 adds an hour to morning show

Wtvt-logo Tampa area fans of Live with Regis and Kelly will have to wait an extra hour for their dose of Philbin, as local Fox affiliate WTVT-Ch. 13 adds an hour to its Good Day Tampa Bay morning newscast, starting March 1.

The change means Good Day will now air five and a half hours each morning, from 4:30 a.m. to 10 .a.m., with 7 a.m. anchors Russell Rhodes and Anne Dwyer handling the extra hour. competing against both local newscasts on the broadcast stations and national news shows such as NBC's Today and ABC's Good Morning America.

It also means Live with Regis and Kelly moves back an hour to 10 a.m., while Martha Stewart's Martha moves to 11 a.m. The morning runs of Access Hollywood and The Insider, now at 11 a.m., will vanish (The Insider still airs original episodes at 7:30 p.m.).

The reasoning behind the move is simple: Good Day Tampa Bay performs well in mornings, even against NBC's powerhouse Today show among key viewers from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.

And by airing another hour of Good Day, WTVT gets to keep all the advertising revenue from the broadcast, instead of sharing it with the company which owns Live with Regis and Kelly.

The only questions which remain: Will there be a backlash from displaced Regis and Kelly fans? And can WTVT, which already has more hours of newscasts on air than any other local broadcaster, provide another hour of local news at a time when staffing has been pared back and everyone in local media is pinching pennies?

Here's the press release from WTVT:
