Meteorologist Brooks Garner debuts tomorrow on WFLA-Ch. 8, completing forecaster shuffle
After bidding an emotional farewell to those watching WFLA's morning broadcasts, saying she was moving West to be closer to family and try new opportunities, meterologist Jennifer Hill wound up working a few more weeks on the NBC affiliate's weekend evening newscasts. Hill's extra duty allowed fellow meteorologist Leigh Spann to join WFLA's morning crew at the same time as morning news anchor Rod Carter.
On Saturday the meteorologist shuffle will be complete, when forecaster Brooks Garner joins WFLA's evening newscasts, coming from WIS-TV in Columbia, S.C. Garner, a Georgia native and graduate of the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston and Mississippi State University, also worked at WHDH-TV in Bsoton as a weather producer.
Garner has had an interesting history, serving as consulting meteorologist for the 2009 Jake Gyllenhaal movie Nailed, giving the production weather forecasts for filming, and riding a bike 4,000 miles across the country from Virginia Beach to Los Angeles in six weeks. With hurricane season and a gigantic oil slick approaching, there would seem no more interesting time join a Tampa Bay area weather team.
