What you're talking about today

Miami doctors, Jerry Bruckheimer and David Spade are up, Jay Mohr and Numb3rs are down in new CBS spring schedule

Accidentally-on-purpose-poster CBS is benching Jay Mohr's comedy Gary Unmarried and Friday night drama Numb3rs later this year in a new spring schedule announced today.

Instead, Jenna Elfman's comedy about a "cougar" impregnated by her young lover, Accidentally on Purpose, moves to Mohr's Wednesday perch in late March and the expected-to-be-canceled drama Numb3rs will be replaced by Miami Medical -- yet another drama from CSI executive producer Bruckheimer, once known as Miami Trauma.

(My two questions: Is the name change indicating CBS getting cold feet about all the homicides it's shown in Magic City thanks to CSI: Miami? And will they actually include Miami landmarks in the logo for this new series?)

Rules of Engagement, the midseason comedy starring David Spade and Patrick Warburton, will take Elfman's Monday space between CBS' two most popular comedies, Big Bang Theory and Two and Half Men.

Rules_of_engagement The moves feel like a combination of tweaking and experimentation, with stalwart midseason comedy Rules slotted on Mondays to see if it can best Elfman's less-than spectacular results. Likewise with Wednesdays, where Elfman's female-centered comedy might pair better with the strong show on that night, Julia Louis-Dreyfus' New Adventures of Old Christine.

Here's how the changes are due to play out:
