My NPR commentary today: How CBS can upgrade the evening news, post-Katie
If you read this space regularly, these are ideas you've seen a few weeks ago.
But the producers at NPR helped me pull together a pretty cool audio version of notions I've been noodling with in print for years.
Namely, how to save network TV's evening news.
This piece also represents an important advance for me as a radio commentator, as I'm evolving a comfortable, effective way to express myself as someone whose voice is the communications system instead of the written word.
Now that Katie Couric has confirmed she's leaving the CBS Evening News, the Eye Network has a rare opportunity to reinvent its network newscast again.
Rumor is, the point man hired as executive producer to handle that will be Rome Hartman, who I interviewed last week for today' s front page story about the deluge of royal wedding coverage.
So check out the NPR commentary and let me know what you think here.
I've got another one coming tomorrow afternoon about the departure of Steve Carell from NBC's highest-rated comedy, The Office.
