Nerd alert: New trailer for Superman movie Man of Steel shows serious, less romantic hero
The fanboy dissection of blockbusters to come continues with the release of a new trailer for Warner Bros.' update of Superman, Man of Steel, directed by Zack Snyder (The Watchmen) and executive produced by Dark Knight auteur Christopher Nolan.
Given Nolan's involvement and Snyder's embrace of Watchmen's gritty realism, its no surprise this seems a much more serious Superman fable, depicting the hero as unsure how he will be received by humanity, encouraged to hide his powers by his adoptive human father Jonathan Kent, played with earnest solemnity by Kevin Costner.
Rather than jumping into the cushy life of a journalist at the Daily Planet, young Superman-to-be Clark Kent is shown working on a fishing boat.
Even for a Superman film, Man of Steel has some serious star power, with Russell Crowe as Jor El, biological father to the Kryptonian stranded on earth. Amy Adams is the love interest, Michael Shannon is the bad guy (rumored to be Kryptonian dictator General Zod) and folks such as Laurence Fishburne as Daily Planet editor Perry White and Diane Lane as Ma Kent.
Law & Order: SVU alum Christopher Meloni even pops up in the trailer -- possibly playing a cop.
Fanboys are saying this website is part of the film's viral marketing, which included a teaser trailer before the theatrical release of The Dark Knight Rises.
