New Dexter promo from Showtime promises blood on the suburban grass

Dexter_season4_poster As a stone Dexter fan, I've been counting the days until my favorite crime tech-turned secret serial killer starts practicing his trade again (9 p.m. Sept. 27, for those keeping score!).

Until I'm lucky enough to score a preview DVD to review the show, I'll have to content myself with this promo ad released by Showtime a few days ago.

Last season started slowly and disappointingly, turning NYPD Blue hunk Jimmy Smits into a murderous district attorney smart enough to try manipulating Michael C. Hall's secret psycho Dexter Morgan into his own personal executioner. Once the storyline got going, the plot was delicious; but it took half the season to really gain steam, wearing out my patience.

This season, John Lithgow is the guest star, playing a serial killer who has evaded capture for three decades. Reportedly, Keith Carradine also returns as the FBI agent hunting Lithgow's mild-mannered suburbanite; I'll have to somehow overlook Hall's marriage to the actress who plays his sister, Deb, Jennifer Carpenter.

Here's the promo. .
