daveandcherie.jpgUnder occupation, they list "ambassadors of laughter."

But the job New Port Richey's Dave and Cherie Gregg hold with the Ringling Bros. circus comes by a much-less complicated name: clown.

The couple, who perform in a charitable program for kids operated by the circus, are among the just-announced cast of CBS' unscripted show The Amazing Race, competing in a race around the world filmed for the show's 20th cycle. They say in promotional materials for the show, they will spend their 20th wedding anniversary playing the game.

The show debuts on WTSP-Ch. 10 at 8 p.m. Feb. 19, featuring 11 couples in an intercontinental race. the cast also includes two veterans from another CBS show, Big Brother, Rachel Reilly and Brendon Villegas. See the rest of the cast by clicking here.

Both age 44, the Greggs are actually performers with a circus initiative which brings free programs to schools, daycare centers, pediatric care units and libraries, allowing kids who might not be able to attend circus performances to get a sample.

ambassadorsoflaughter.jpgBut fans know the time pressures and challenges filling the Amazing Race are enough to make the sunniest couple turn on each other. But there are exceptions; the last time a Tampa Bay area team competed on the race, Tampa residents Tina and Ken Greene rekindled their marriage after a period of estrangement, landing in second place in December 2008.

Read more about the two below:

Name: Dave Gregg
Age: 44
Hometown: New Port Richey, Fla.
Connection to your teammate: Married
Current occupation: Ambassador of Laughter

Describe what you do: My wife and I work for Ringling Bros. We visit cities and bring educational programs and laughter to schools, hospitals, libraries and kids who might not get a chance to see the show.
cast.jpgHow will these skills help you win The Race? As ambassadors of laughter we understand the international language of comedy and how it can connect our world.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of? Having the courage to walk into a clown college audition for the second time. It changed my life forever.
Biggest challenge you and your teammate will face on The Race together: She sometimes thinks she know everything. Nine out of 10 times she does, but I still like to argue for the 10%.
What do you hope to accomplish by running The Race (other than winning one million bucks)? This is a dream come true. I want to celebrate our 20 year anniversary running around the world and having the adventure of a lifetime!

Name: Cherie Gregg
Age: 44
Hometown: New Port Richey, Fla.
Connection to your teammate: Married
Current occupation: Ambassador of Laughter

Describe what you do: As ambassadors of laughter, my husband and I get to bring free programs to schools, libraries, hospitals, etc. We bring a little circus to kids who might not be able to attend the big show while getting the word out on TV, radio and newspapers that Ringling Bros is coming to town.
How will these skills help you win The Race? Clowning is a universal language. Plus, we’re used to working and traveling together. We have a “show must go on” attitude!
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of? Even though I never got into Ringling Bros. Clown College, I was able to not only perform in the show for five years, but become one of the two full-time “Ambassadors of Laughter” for the Greatest Show on Earth.
Biggest challenge you and your teammate will face on The Race together: I don’t usually speak up unless I know I’m right. We would save a lot of time if Dave would just listen to me the first time. 98% of the time we do things my way so why bother arguing about it?
