Sale for tickets to John Legend's St. Petersburg event pushed back one week to Oct. 1
Organizers have pushed back sale of tickets to R&B star John Legend's fundraising event in St. Petersburg one week to Oct. 1, ensuring they have time to make sure fans know exactly what will happen.
Legend will appear at the Mahaffey Theater on Dec. 13, in a benefit to raise money for the United Way of Tampa Bay's education programs in Hillsborough and Pinealls counties.
But even though he may be onstage for more than an hour, the star is expected to sing only four or five songs, accompanying himself on piano.
According to a release from the United Way, the event -- titled "An Intimate Evening with John Legend" -- will feature the singer onstage speaking "about his philanthropic work and lessons he has learned about the importance of education to our community. Guests will also get to hear John perform four to five songs following his speech."
The hope: to ensure ticket buyers know they won't see a full-fledged concert, but rather spend time with Legend as he talks about education and plays a few songs.
Tickets will cost $55, $70 and $85, set to go on sale through TicketMaster and the Mahaffey Theater’s box office. Valpak.com is onboard as the show's presenting sponsor.
