Tampa Bay Buccaneers could get HBO's Hard Knocks treatment....if there's a pro football season to film

raheem_morris.jpgESPN reports that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in discussions with HBO to become the next team featured in its unscripted Hard Knocks series; a cinema verite-style look at an NFL team's training camp, pre-season games and roster cuts.

There's just one potential stumbling block: the NFL lockout.

If there isn't a pro football season due to stalled negotiations, or the season gets pushed back somehow, that could always change the situation for HBO or the Bucs.

But as a longtime fan of HBO's series -- though I gotta admit seeing New York Jets coach Rex Ryan's antics during the last Hard Knocks in a different light, given his more recent troubles -- I'm salivating at the prospect of seeing plainspoken coach Raheem Morris and the guys in the Hard Knocks crosshairs.

Unlike so many so-called "reality TV" shows, HBO's series works hard to distill the flavor of training camp and team building, catching some of the NFL's most colorful and promising organizations at crucial moments in their development.

Now I've got one more reason to hope this craziness with NFL negotiations gets wrapped up soon.

Check out one of Ryan's choicest Hard Knocks moments (WARNING - language NSFW!); REALLY makes me want to eat a snack!
