Tampa resident Lori Ussery wins $100,000 on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire
It may be the coolest Christmas present Tampa resident Lori Ussery has ever gotten: $100,000, courtesy of the TV game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.
Viewers watching the show Thursday saw Ussery, 33, take home the cash after correctly guessing the best angle for a stone to hit the water for skipping purposes (20 degrees).
“Who would have thought that skipping stones as a kid could lead to winning $100,000 on a game show?” said Ussery, who tried out for the show with a few co-workers in July at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Tampa.
Her segment was taped in New York in October, but she couldn’t reveal the results until her episodes aired Wednesday and Thursday.
The first question, about what salespeople say to customers in the Apple store, may have been toughest for Ussery — a person who has never owned an Apple computing product in her life.
“It’s pretty fortunate for the timing,” said Ussery, who hopes to take her family on a vacation and build a pool around Christmastime. “The hardest thing was keeping quiet about what happened.”
The show, hosted by former Today show co-host Meredith Vieira, airs locally at 7:30 p.m. weekdays on WTSP-Ch. 10, featuring Lakeland graphic designer Jackson Tejada tonight.
