Tampa teen Lindsey Norton draws standing ovation on America's Got Talent episode
Watching from the audience in April, it was a heartwarming sight.
Lindsey Norton, a 16-year-old acrobatic dancer from Tampa, bounded onstage at the Mahaffey Theater with a bubbly enthusiasm and wide-eyed eagerness sure to win over the judges on America's Got Talent, which had filled the venue with 2,000 fans eager to see those who had reached the show's public auditions and celebrity judges.
Bouyed by a local cheering section including her parents, Norton's combination of modern dance and contortionist moves drew a standing ovation and a sure ticket to the next round of tryouts in Las Vegas. Even shock jock Howard Stern, who called himself "Satan" just before commenting, was complimentary, noting "you are exactly what this contest is all about."
Norton, who coincidentally knows the Lutz teen who appeared on Fox's So You Think You Can Dance last week, Courtney Kirby, was similarly excited about her chance to move forward; the Las Vegas auditions, also pre-taped, begin airing June 25. Fortunately, Tuesday's episode captured the excitement and goodwill in the room back in April, when Norton faced the cameras in St. Petersburg.
As before, AGT also avoided mentioning St. Petersburg, though they did show a few shots of the Mahaffey and plenty of quick footage from the Tampa skyline and sunny skies.
