Tivo ad Ti-NO: What to watch and not in the week to come
Law & Order: Criminal Intent, 8 tonight, USA Network: Between star Vincent D’Onofrio’s bulky eccentricities and the convoluted plots, this has always seemed like the Triple-A team of the L&O franchise. But tonight’s episode melds quirky guest stars (Oz’s Dean Winters and Lauren Velez) with a surprisingly deft story about D’Onofrio’s brilliant head case, Detective Goren, trying to win his place back in the NYPD’s major case squad. Next week, Chris “Mr. Big” Noth returns in a episode featuring Mo Rocca, Illeana Douglas and Jeff Garlin. Pure showbiz heaven.
Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, 9 p.m. Thursday, Bravo: Our lively diva Miss Griffin dates the biggest geek in the world, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak (though there are rumors they’ve split). Oh, and she insults Jesus. Hilarity ensues.
Army Wives, 10 p.m., Lifetime: I’m a guy, so I’m not supposed to get this show, centered on the trials of a group of military wives on a Army post. But this second season premiere seems to strand top TV talents Kim Delaney and Catherine Bell in a maudlin script that starts at the aftermath of a bombing at a local bar and ratchets up the melodrama even further. For those who find Desperate Housewives too reserved.
