Two Tampa Bay area outlets land on Rolling Stone's list of 25 Best Record Stores in the USA

vinyl_fever.jpgThe Tampa Bay area doesn't usually land in the pages of Rolling Stone unless some pop star is getting arrested or a new drug epidemic has broken out.

So it's exciting to see two Tampa Bay area landmarks profiled for something other than crystal meth or lewdness arrests; both Bananas Music in St. Petersburg and Vinyl Fever in Tampa have been listed among the 25 best record stores in the U.S. by Rolling Stone.

Bananas-Music.jpgAnyone who has had the pleasure of actually thumbing through the wares at either store knows they deserve the honor. Bananas is a floor-to-ceiling teasure trove of wax housing 3-million items, while Vinyl Fever has the coolest collection of used CDs, DVDs, and old school records around, some for rock bottom prices.

Some might crack jokes about how God's waiting room would be a perect location for stories still carrying stuff as outdated as actual records. But I prefer to think we in the Tampa Bay area still find value in cool stuff that more superficial trendsetters choose to pass by.

Whatever the reason, it's cool to see RS cop to something we knew a long time ago -- that some of the coolest music stores are right in our own backyard. (h/t to pal Ben French for pointing out the news)
