Warren Sapp hits semifinals of Dancing With the Stars

It's not something anyone would have predicted. Sappweek8

But with the departure of Olympic runner Maurice Greene last night from Dancing With the Stars,  former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive player Warren Sapp remains the last athlete standing on ABC's monster hit.

Sapp faces Disney Channel star Cody Linley, model/actress Brooke Burke and 'N Sync singer Lance Bass -- all talented amateurs with a taste for the stage. But athletes have always done well on this show -- they have won four of the show's six cycles -- partially because they bring huge fan bases who then vote for them during the competition, and also because their often-unexpected skill brings an onscreen transformation that viewers seem to love.

By now, the show is down to the brass tacks of competition; all the comic relief competitors are gone, and performances are down to the real dancers. After weeks of watching, it seems to me that this show could easily come down to a finale pitting Sapp's aggressive charm vs. Burke's sexy skill.

Who woulda thunk it, especially from a guy who was once one of the biggest sack machines in the NFL?
