WFLA-AM hires South Florida radio producer Allyson Turner as Sharon Taylor's replacement on AM Tampa Bay

South Florida-based radio producer Allyson Turner will join Jack Harris and Tedd Webb on WFLA-AM's highly-rated morning show AM Tampa Bay on Monday, replacing former co-host Sharon Taylor.

Taylor, who had been on the show for 10 years, was released sudden in September when her contract expired. Back then, Taylor said she had no idea why the station didn't renew her contract; WFLA officials would not provide a concrete reason, beyond stressing her departure was not a economic issue.

So why did it take five months to find Turner?

"We took our time," said Doug Hamand, operations manager at WFLA, who added that close to 500 people expressed interest in the job. "We wanted to make sure Jack and Ted had their check mark next to whoever it was."

That's why Hammond brought Turner in before the Christmas holidays to appear on AM Tampa Bay before they offered the job to her. Though Turner is currently unemployed, she most recently worked for the Miami sports radio station WQAM producing the Hank Goldberg Radio Show and also served as program director for WAXY-AM (790 The Ticket), Hammond said.

Hammond wouldn't say why Taylor's contract wasn't renewed, but denied rumors it was over something controversial she said on air.

"She is a sweetheart...(but) we decided at the end of the day we wanted to make a change," he said. "And that's all I can say about that."
