Why Jimmy Fallon is most underrated TV talent of 2010: Slow jamming news with Brian Williams
Next week, I'll be working light and posting lots of my best of lists, but this one was too good to wait.
Here's proof why Jimmy Fallon will be receiving my Most Underrated award for 2010: a slow jamming the news segment featuring NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams.
I once described Fallon as an underage driver who got the keys to the family's Corvette -- a precocious talent who wasn't quite good as the framework around him. But all that changed this year, as Fallon has almost effortlessly notched an amazing array of great moments: exhuberant Emmy hosting gig, the Rolling Stones hanging out for a weeklong tribute to Exile on Main Street, a viral hit MC-ing the history of Rap with Justin Timberlake.
And now a Slow Jammin' the News segment with NBC's top news anchor explaining Obama's tax deal.
This is what late hosts need most: Attention-grabbing moments that can go viral and convince people who haven't seen the show to give it a try.
The moment when they quote the Theme From Shaft is priceless enough by itself.
Check it out, and feel free to tell me your most underrated shows for a spot in this space...
