Han and Leia in real life: Carrie Fisher reveals 'Star Wars' affair
Possibly the most cherished romance in all of geekdom, the on-screen love affair between Princess Leia and Han Solo in the Star Wars films, went beyond the movie screen, according to actress Carrie Fisher.
Fisher told People magazine that she carried on an "intense" affair with her co-star Harrison Ford during the three-month filming of Episode IV: A New Hope, the original Star Wars film released in 1977.
At the time, Fisher was 19 and Ford was 33. He was also married.
"It was Han and Leia during the week, and Carrie and Harrison during the weekend," Fisher said.
Fisher reveals the affair 40 years later in her new book, The Princess Diarist, using diary entries she'd written at the time. She told People that Ford received an advance copy of the new book, and knew that she'd planned to tell the story.
Ford and Fisher were reunited on-screen as Han and Leia in last year's Episode VII: The Force Awakens. The next Star Wars film set for release is the spinoff, Rogue One, which is due out in December.
