How Christina Aguilera became the best part of 'The Voice'
They might as well call this season of The Voice “The Redemption of Christina Aguilera.” More than Adam’s coiffed hair or Cee Lo’s outrageous outfits, Aguilera is easily the show’s MVP right now. Taking a break from the judging panel (she was replaced by Shakira for the show’s fourth season) definitely did Xtina some good.
Last we saw her on The Voice, she was going through a rough patch, unable to find an outfit that fit her or a constructive thing to say about anyone. This season, she’s turned her demeanor around faster than those swiveling judge chairs. She’s totally charming, genuinely invested in the contest (she even takes notes during the live performances!) and seems more comfortable (and nicer) in her own skin. This past week, she absolutely killed it in two performances to kick off the show’s live rounds. Watch one of them below, in which she sings a ballad and gives us all of the goosebumps.
Plus, most importantly for this show, she’s a terrific coach! From what we’ve seen in the mentoring sessions, Aguilera picks great songs for her singers, offers actual constructive criticism and sings often with her contestants. It’s a treat! (Last year, it was easy to forget how incredible her voice is with her cleavage so far up her neck.) Adam has some definite contenders on his team, but we think Christina could easily win this season.
As a Genie in a Bottle-obsessed teen, I’m personally glad to see Aguilera bouncing back. Girl’s got too much talent to follow a Britney Spearsian path. Keep it up!
