HBO has won the sweepstakes to land John Oliver for his own show.

Breaking news! John Oliver is leaving The Daily Show to do a show that sounds a lot like his old gig, except it will be on HBO once a week. It's no surprise the hyenas were circling after the impressive job Oliver did this past summer filling in for Jon Stewart while he was off shooting a movie.

Deadline reports that the show will present "a satirical look at the week in news, politics and current events, will debut in 2014, airing on Sunday nights."  HBO’s long-running Real Time With Bill Maher will retain its Friday night perch.

Oliver, in his typically dry humor, said: “I’m incredibly excited to be joining HBO, especially a I presume this means I get free HBO now. I want to thank Comedy Central, and everyone at The Daily Show for the best seven and a half years of my life. But most of all, I’d like to thank Jon Stewart. He taught me everything I know. In fact, if I fail in the future, it’s entirely his fault."
