'Karate Kid' Ralph Macchio coming to Tampa Theatre
80's heartthrob Ralph Macchio is joining the celebrity movie nostalgia parade through Tampa Bay, appearing Apr. 9, 2016 at Tampa Theatre with his signature hit, The Karate Kid.
Tickets for The Karate Kid with Ralph Macchio LIVE go on sale Friday at noon at Tampa Theatre's box office (711 N. Franklin St.) and website (tampatheatre.org). Prices are $46.50 (plus applicable fees) for general admission seating. A limited number of meet-and-greet tickets are available for $129, plus fees.
Show time is 7:30 p.m.; doors open at 6:30.
Macchio will appear after the screening to discuss his role as Daniel LaRusso, a bullied high school transfer taken under the wind of karate master Mr. Miyagi (the late Pat Morita). The 1984 release was directed by Oscar winner John G. Avildsen, continuing the underdog motif he perfected a few yeras earlier with Rocky.
The Karate Kid earned Morota a best supporting actor Academy Award nomination, and was named one of the best high school movies ever made by Entertainment Weekly. Macchio's film career also includes roles in The Outsiders and My Cousin Vinny, plus television roles on Ugly Betty and Entourage.
Macchio's appearance is eight days after Academy Award winner Sophia Loren does a Q&A appearance at Ruth Eckerd Hall, and not long after Oscar winner Richard Dreyfuss' similar appearance to Macchio's at Capitol Theater with Jaws.
