Lego artist will throw first pitch at Tampa Bay Rays game -- and he's making his own ball
This is a baseball and bat that artist Nathan Sawaya created out of Lego bricks for his Art of the Brick museum show in California. Sawaya, who is bringing his exhibition of creative Lego pieces to Tampa June 23-Sept. 4, will be throwing out the first pitch in the June 21 Rays game. And the baseball -- you guessed it -- will be made out of Legos.
"I think we are making baseball history here," Sayaya said in an interview from his Los Angeles studio, which is stocked with a 6 million bricks at any given time.
The Rays confirmed to us that yes, Sawaya will be on the mound at the 12:10 p.m. game June 21 against the Cincinatti Reds. And he's making his own ball with red stitching and everything.
Sawaya, meanwhile, says he is practicing in a local park to make sure his pitch doesn't sink like, well, a brick.
